As of July 4th 2018, the Internet as we know it might be dead for good.

The European Parliament is passing a new Copyright Directive.
Article 13 #CensorshipMachine will impose widespread censorship of all the content we share online. Art, fanfiction, parodies, remixes, mashups, memes, etc.. Anything that you do not hold the rights over will be taken down.

Article 13 would force all online platforms to police and prevent the uploading of copyrighted content, or make people seek the correct licenses to post that content. Internet platforms hosting large amounts of user-uploaded content must monitor user behaviour and filter their contributions to identify and prevent copyright infringement.

Such filters will be mandatory for platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit and Instagram, but also much smaller websites.

(x)

This doesn’t just affect Europe. The content creators you love are going to be in hot water for sharing their art and writing with you online. Any and all content that doesn’t belong to us will be filtered. Even memes are at risk, as the person who took the original photo may want to file complaints against any platform that allows it to be used without permission. But it goes even further than that.

Last Tuesday (19th June 2018) a group of more than 70 people who have played important roles in building the internet and developing it (Tim Berners-Lee, Vincent Cerf, Jimmy Wales, Mitchell Baker…) into what it is today addressed an open letter to the members of the European Parliament:

“As creators ourselves, we share the concern that there should be a fair distribution of revenues from the online use of copyright works, that benefits creators, publishers, and platforms alike.

But Article 13 is not the right way to achieve this. By requiring Internet platforms to perform automatic filtering all of the content that their users upload, Article 13 takes an unprecedented step towards the transformation of the Internet from an open platform for sharing and innovation, into a tool for the automated surveillance and control of its users. […] The damage that this may do to the free and open Internet as we know it is hard to predict, but in our opinions could be substantial.”

Here is the original Article 13. It’s even scarier. / Link 2

Here is how to contact your MEPs.

Here is a full list of everything that will be affected.

Europe is facing a huge problem, and unlike with Net Neutrality, the world doesn’t seem to care.

Two pro heroes are complaining about having to work at a convention and deal with droves of sweaty fans, while two booths down a little kid is crying while meeting Deku, and Deku is crying right back. The mum is panicked. She knows how to handle a crying child but doesn’t know how to handle a crying top hero. Everyone in line is taking photos. Deku and the kid are hugging like it’s the end of the world

Mitsuki and Katsuki’s Relationship

To those of you accusing Mitsuki of being abusive, I’m pretty sure that’s not the intention at all. Their yelling and insulting is supposed to be played for laughs, and this is just how they express themselves. Mitsuki and Katsuki both seem to be trying outdo each other when it comes to who can yell and insult the most. Is Mitsuki Bakugou the reason Katsuki is the rude, aggressive, determined, and hardworking character he is? Yes. Is she the source of Bakugou’s worst issues; like his large ego, inferiority complex, and other mental issues? No. If she was, the series would have taken her treatment of Katsuki seriously and mentioned her as a reason for Katsuki’s poor mental health. He’d receive flashbacks of her abuse or Aizawa would have brought her up as a problem. But no. The series doesn’t do that. It’s not treated as an issue at all.

One telling factor is the fact that All Might and Aizawa didn’t do anything or address Mitsuki’s treatment towards her son. Keep in mind, these two are pro heroes, and they are on the same level as the police. They would recognize abuse when they see it. To them, Mitsuki was not abusive. They didn’t try to stop her. They didn’t address it. They didn’t report her to the police. Nothing. In the BNHA universe and in their culture, Mitsuki’s behavior is not abusive.

In fact, we don’t even know if she started yelling at her son until he started yelling at her as he got older. We don’t know if she started getting strict with him once she realized her son was getting pampered, spoiled, and a big ego. We don’t know the full context of their relationship. We don’t know their mindsets. We don’t know how Katsuki truly was affected by her behavior. People will say, “he was trembling with fear.” No, he was trembling with anger.

I get why people think Mitsuki’s relationship with Katsuki is abusive. There is always a possibility she is abusive if we get more information about their relationship. But in the context of everything we know so far, it doesn’t seem like she’s intended to be abusive. People are either misinterpreting their relationship or taking it out of context.

Abusive relationships aren’t abusive because of the actions of the perpetrator. THEY’RE ABUSIVE BECAUSE OF THE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS OF THE VICTIM. The series implies Katsuki’s pain doesn’t come from her. It implies his pain comes from villain attacks, being spoiled by those around him, and from Midoriya. Those things are taking the blame for his issues. Not his mom. If the series later points out her words genuinely harm him, then that’ll be a different story. However, it’s likely Mitsuki and Katsuki don’t even take their insults to heart because they’re insulting each other nonstop, and it’s normal for them. Hell, insults may be signs of affection. That’s how different their way of life is from others.

People are projecting themselves and their norms onto the Bakugou family. If they were Katsuki, they’d be hurt by Mitsuki’s behavior. However, Katsuki is not a projection of the fans. Katsuki is Katsuki. His feelings towards this are what the author intends to them to be. If his mom’s actions don’t hurt him, then they don’t hurt him. As far as I can tell, it’s not supposed to be taken seriously or be an issue.

Freya Was Jacked

crazy-pages

So there’s this story in Norse mythology, Þrymskviða. Compressed down, it goes like this: A Jotun steal Thor’s hammer Mjolnir and says he’ll only give it back if he’s given Freyja to marry, as she is the most beautiful goddess in all of existence. The gods argue over what to do for a while before Heimdall suggests they stick a bridal veil on Thor, says he’s Freyja, and pretend they’re giving Freyja (Thor) to the Jotun to marry so Thor can get close enough to the Jotun to steal Mjolnir back.

Now typically when people talk about this story, it’s with an element of disbelieving comedy. “Oh my god, who would believe Thor was a woman, let alone Freyja, the most beautiful goddess in the world?”

But I propose a different way to look at the story.

See, different cultures have different beauty standards. Modern western beauty standards may be a delicate hourglass supermodel, but that’s not always been the case. Greece, for instance, depicted Aphrodite like this:

Yeah. A Greek sculptor was told “sculpt the goddess of beauty” and they thought “alright, fat rolls, that’s where beauty is at, let’s do this”. And everybody else apparently agreed with them, because up went the statue. Beauty is a malleable concept is what I’m getting at.

Now this is where it becomes relevant that Freyja is not just the goddess of love, sex, and beauty. She’s also the goddess of war. And the righteous dead. Goddess of war in the same Viking warrior culture that gave us shield maidens, women who wielded seven fucking kilogram (15 lbs) shields in combat.

Sooooo … when the Norse storytellers said, “This is Freyja, goddess of war and the righteous dead, who rode giant murder cats into battle, she is the most beautiful goddess in the world”, I’m guessing they weren’t thinking of her as some willowy waif. No, I’m guessing they probably thought more along the lines of:

190 cm (6′3″), broad shoulders, built like a brick shithouse, with a jawline like whoa, and fully capable of murdering everything in her path.

Put in that context, the story of Thor dressing up as Freyja sounds less like a punchline about “how could anyone ever mistake Thor in a veil for Freyja?” and becomes more a case of “ohhhhhhhhhhh, no wonder all the gods thought this plan would work”.

It did, by the way. The plan totally worked.

If you’re European, in a couple of weeks you will be denied any and all access to fandom contents on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. Here’s why.

On June, 20th the JURI of European Parliament approved of the articles 11 and 13 of the new Copyright Law. These articles are also known as the “Link Tax” and the “Censorship Machines” articles.

Articles 13 in particular forces every internet platform to filter all the contents we upload online, ending once and for all the fandom culture. Which means you won’t be able to upload any type of fandom works like fan arts, fan fictions, gif sets from your favourite films and series, edits, because it’s all copyrighted material. And you won’t also be able to share, enjoy or download other’s contents, because the use of links will be completely restricted.

But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.

What you can do now to save our internet, is to share these informations with all of your family members and friends, and to ask to your MEP (the members of the European Parliament from your country) to vote NO at the next round, to vote against articles 11 and 13.

Here you can find more news and all the details to contact your MEP:

We have just a couple of weeks to stop this complete madness, don’t let them dictating the way we enjoy our internet.

#SaveYourInternet now!

It’s funny how y'all will reblog any and all US things but when whole Europe might lose access to internet then everything is quiet.

Shout out to Coach Hernandez, though. If it hadn’t been for him, the entire trilogy wouldn’t have even happened.

I always wonder what he’s up to? Like here’s this regular high school Exy coach who’s got the enigma that is Neil Josten on his team. He’s a quiet kid who learned Exy in one year, a kid who says he’s got parents, but they don’t show up to any games, a kid who can pick the doorlock to sleep in the locker room at night.

So he does the best he can without prying too much and instead he tries to set Neil up with a future, away from Millport. He doesn’t even tell Neil about it just in case but he even sends a tape instead of statistics because he knew how to sell Neil’s strengths, because he knows that actually seeing Neil play is something on another level.

And then imagine him watching in awe as the Palmetto State Foxes - a team that had been the joke of the Class I Division, a team that was literally last ranked! Imagine him watching in awe as it slowly rises to the top of the game, all in one season. Imagine him watching Neil play as starting striker alongside Kevin Day. His Neil! From his high school team!

Imagine him watching in shock as this quiet kid - who probably hadn’t spoken more than 3 sentences to him at a time back at Millport - imagine Hernandez watching as Neil absolutely verbally rips apart and challenges Riko Moriyama on national television, tells him that Riko’s going to choke on his own words.

Imagine him watching in wonder as Neil Josten develops into a striker that’s scary good, a striker that couldn’t have possibly improved that much in just a few months, a striker that can hold the floor with Kevin Day.

Imagine him hearing about the news about Neil’s past on the media, hearing things about gangs and murders and son of a crime boss, seeing him in pictures and thinking I could have sworn he had brown eyes and imagine him wondering who the hell this kid that he coached actually was?

Imagine Hernandez watching with his jaw open as his high school recruit, Neil Josten hold his own for a full game as a starting striker, then watching Neil switch in the middle of the game without a break and play an incredible defense, all against Edgar fucking Allan - the number one team, a team that has never been debunked in history - and fucking win. They fucking won. All in one season.

And imagine him years later down the line, sitting on his couch and watching Neil Josten and a few of his original PSU teammates win gold at the Olympics.

He might have thought it was just a small thing that he did, but just by that simple act of sending Neil’s information to Wymack, he changed the course of Neil’s life. Hernandez completely changed the outlook of Neil’s future - by giving him one at all. So, shout out to you, Coach Hernandez. Without you Neil would have never gotten that second chance to live his life, find a family, and play Exy.

okay but imagine it’s like, a week after the kids move into their dorms, and the laundry room is bursting with soap bubbles for the second time already because none of these 15 year olds knows how to do any household chores, and they’ve been living off unhealthy junk food for the past week, and there’s a mountain of dishes piled up in the sink because they’ve run out of dish soap and no one knows where to get more.

so aizawa, knowing full well that he’s going to regret his decision soon enough, finally decides to give his kids his cell phone number so they can just text him with any questions they might have instead of having to wait until they see him in class the next day.

and no matter how much he threatens them with expulsion, it doesn’t stop the kids from taking full advantage of the new power they have been given.

kaminari and kirishima absolutely send aizawa memes when he knows full well they should be in one of their other classes

mina calls him at 3am once to ask if he has any good brownie recipes, because she can’t sleep, and she wants some midnight snacks, but satou is asleep and she can’t get him to wake up no matter what, and sure she could have googled this shit, but she sucks at baking and needs aizawa-sensei to explain all the technical terms to her

izuku is up late one night, studying for a test, and he has the news on in the background because it’s easier to focus that way. there’s live footage of a villain confrontation that Eraserhead manages to resolve without any civilian injuries, and Izuku sends him a text congratulating him. he doesn’t expect aizawa to respond right away, because he’s currently being interviewed by a reporter, but aizawa has a special notification sound for his students’ numbers, so this man deadass walks away from the reporter mid-sentence to call izuku and lecture him for being awake so late

aizawa is out sick with a cold one day, and present mic covers his class for him. he spends most of his morning trying to go back to sleep, but he can’t help but worry about his kids. he gives up trying to sleep at 11 and gets up to make himself some tea. checking his phone, he sees that he has a pile of of get-well-soon texts from his kids that make him feel all warm and fuzzy inside. an hour or two after classes let out for the day, present mic shows up with a tupperware container of honey daikon that he helped the kids make. aizawa eats all of it despite not really being fond of the dish. present mic wisely decides not to comment. he makes sure to send a thank-you text to all his students.
